Before & After Transformations
1951 University Washington Architecture Project "Bomber" House
Indoor – the underground carport was transformed into a bonus AV/gym/kids play room. Flanked by operable windows, double full wall French doors the space gets plenty of light opening out to a private below grade garden, tranquil sounds of a 14ft. waterfall/ koi pond, multi-level concrete & river rock filled gabion retaining walls. The kitchen was expanded out and up with a clerestory and steel beams supports. Floor to ceiling windows/sliding doors open to a sleek koi pond, and Balinese intricately carved goddess Sri Statue.
Outdoor – the various garden & retaining walls, planters, 40 foot timber bamboo and other flora create an additional 5 outdoor living spaces. Additionally Mitchell used the remaining concrete form boards as a functioning backdrop with 16 water spouts servicing one of two koi ponds, 6x8 foot sandbox to create a play space for children. Others can relax in the nestled lower garden BBQ and lounge.

1980's Contemporary
This outdated but custom home has been transformed into a modern contemporary space. We completely changed the front entrance as previously one could only enter the house through the driveway, now there is a custom built entry and pathway to the new cedar trellis and flagstone walkway. Then the entrance doorway is flanked with a new wood and cement paver deck adjoined by the Japanese tea room/office space. Inside the outdated bathrooms have now have newly constructed concrete tile counter tops, glass shower doors, chinese antique vanities, travertine, slate tile floor and spa inspired accessories/lighting. Previously the living room and master bedroom were flanked with wall to ceiling mirrors, they were removed and now a much cleaner look exists with the use of chinese elm screens, natural grass wallpaper, and new lighting throughout.
